Проект жду и в проект верю! Эдвардс снял хороших "Монстров". Сценарий дорабатывает Дрю Пирс (автор "ЖЧ3"), а черновой вариант за Дэвидом Гойером (вот это немного стремно). В остальном радует, что WB и Legendary планируют вернуться к истокам франчайза, ибо тот жуткий высер Эмериха нереально напрягает. Хочется верить, что в итоге у создателей получится фильм уровня оригинальной ленты 1954 года и фильмов эпохи Хэйсэй. Съемки стартуют 4 марта 2013 года. Премьера намечена на 16 мая 2014 года.

Unfolding to Robert Oppenheimer‘s “I am become death the destroyer of worlds” speech, a surprise, Comic-Con exclusive Godzilla trailer just gave us our first look at the great lizard. And appropriately enough, Godzilla absolutely brought the house down.

The trailer started with some footage of huge urban devastation, and then as we saw more and more shots of buildings smashed to pieces, we catch a glimpse of train, apparently trampled by a giant foot and then a building with a huge hole through the middle.

As though Godzilla had walked right through it.

And then, a curving shot finds Godzilla’s some kaiju’s body, apparently dead on the ground – arms revealed as Oppenheimer talks about Vishna’s many arms. Cut to a logo and the famous Godzilla roar as we know and love it, timed just perfectly to Oppenheimer’s speech.

And then we were back to a shot of Godzilla, alive. The trailer tracked up his back and came to head level, just in time for him to turn around, show his face, his slightly snub snouted face, and roar again.

It’s an astonishing creature design, very grounded.

And Edwards took to the stage after the trailer and echoed this, saying that the film is indeed grounded, and “there’s nothing sci-fi about it.”

Godzilla has its origins as an allegory for the atom bomb, but today it’s more of a straightforward monster movie. Do you want to restore some of that allegorical significance to the franchise?

Frank Darabont: What I found very interesting about Godzilla is that he started off definitely as a metaphor for Hiroshima and Nagasaki. And some of the atom bomb testing we were doing in the South Pacific in the subsequent years. The giant terrifying force of nature that comes and stomps the shit out of your city, that was Godzilla. Filtered through the very fanciful imaginations of the Japanese perception. And then he became Clifford the Big Red Dog in the subsequent films. He became the mascot of Japan, he became the protector of Japan. Another big ugly monster would show up and he would fight that monster to protect Japan. Which I never really quite understood, the shift.

What we’re trying to do with the new movie is not have it camp, not have it be campy. We’re kind of taking a cool new look at it. But with a lot of tradition in the first film. We want this to be a terrifying force of nature. And what was really cool, for me, is there was a very compelling human drama that I got to weave into it. It’s not that cliched, thinly disguised romance or bromance, or whatever. It’s different, it’s a different set of circumstances than you’re used to seeing. And that’s tremendously exciting as a writer when you’re asked to do something else.

Are you looking to connect it to a different contemporary issue?

Frank Darabont: Yes I am, but I’m not going to give it away.

ANNOUNCE CAST AND START OF PRODUCTION FOR “GODZILLA”

 

BURBANK, CA, March 18, 2013 – Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today the final principal cast for the upcoming tent pole “Godzilla.”  Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, and Juliette Binoche are starring in the film, with David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston.

 

The companies also announced that principal photography began today on location in Vancouver.

 

Gareth Edwards is directing the film from a screenplay by Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont and Dave Callaham.  Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are producing with Mary Parent and Brian Rogers.  Alex Garcia and Patricia Whitcher are serving as executive producers alongside Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira.

 

A presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, “Godzilla” will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, except in Japan, where it will be distributed by Toho Co., Ltd.  Legendary Pictures is a division of Legendary Entertainment.

 

Slated to open on May 16, 2014, the film is expected to be presented in 3D.

Стильно и отдает классическим дизайном, что только радует. Хотя не представляю себе не-резинового Годзиллу с таким силуэтом.

бля, если даже монстр размером с кайдзю кажется коротышкой, то годзилла должен быть просто невероятным МОНСТРОМ, тогда его вообще хер замочишь
